El Paso Zoo Elephants to Predict 2016 Super Bowl Winner

The El Paso Zoo invites the public to watch the zoo’s Asian elephants, Savannah and Juno, predict this year’s Super Bowl winner at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, February 6, at the elephant exhibit at the zoo.

For the third year in a row, each elephant will cast their vote by selecting a helmet shaped piñata set out for them in their exhibit by their zoo keepers. Will they choose the Denver Broncos or Carolina Panthers? In 2014, both elephants correctly selected the Seattle Seahawks. The elephants picked the Seahawks again in 2015, but the Patriots won the 2015 Super Bowl.

This fun activity serves as their enrichment for the day. Animal enrichment is provided to animals to provide mental and physical stimulation in their daily lives. Juno and Savannah will enjoy the piñatas and the activity will provide a fun and unique experience for them and visitors.

“All of our animals love their daily treats and this will be ‘super’ fun and a great way to engage our visitors. We always have a great crowd of football fans and animal lovers,” said Carrie Trudeau, Animal Enrichment Coordinator. “Even though the elephants aren’t making a conscience prediction, this is a fun activity for them.”
